Caring for Your Acoustic Guitar: Expert Tips From the Santa Cruz Workshop

A finely built acoustic guitar is a living instrument — one that appreciates proper care, a stable environment, and a touch of respect. Whether you play a Santa Cruz Guitar or another cherished acoustic, adopting professional maintenance habits keeps your tone rich and your instrument protected.

1. Monitor humidity like a luthier

Guitars thrive between 40–55% humidity. Too dry, and the wood can crack. Too wet, and tone becomes dull. A simple digital hygrometer is a must-have.

2. Clean your strings and fretboard after every session

A soft cloth helps remove sweat and oils that degrade strings faster. Oil your fretboard (sparingly) with a high-quality conditioner a few times a year.

3. Change your strings regularly

If your guitar has lost brilliance, feels harder to play or doesn’t stay in tune as it should, it’s time for a fresh set. Our Parabolic Tension Strings are designed to stay fresh longer — but every guitar rewards renewal.

4. Use a proper case at all times

Temperature swings in a car, loft or garage are the enemy of solid wood guitars. A good case is your acoustic’s best friend.

A well-cared-for instrument stays stable, beautiful and inspiring — just the way the luthier intended.
